Does Cadence offer a lifetime subscription?
I understand the frustration with subscriptions. I’m not a fan of them either. But for a small app, it’s close to the only way to keep the lights on.
Part of the reason is that a number of Cadence’s features cost me money every time they’re used. Turn by turn navigation, elevation data, weather, etc. all run on paid third party services, billed by usage. If someone buys a “lifetime” license and then rides with navigation every day for the next ten years, I’m paying for that indefinitely with no way to know upfront what it’ll add up to.
There’s also the price problem. To make a one-off purchase work, it would need to be well over $100. Most people aren’t looking to spend that on an app anymore, so I’d end up with a price that scares off new users and still doesn’t cover long term costs.
Finally, Cadence is a solo project. It’s just me building it, supporting it, and keeping it working through every iOS and Android update. A subscription is what lets me keep doing that full time instead of treating it as a side project that slowly goes stale. The recurring revenue is what pays for ongoing development, new features, and personally answering every support email you send me.
