Support & Frequently Asked Questions

What are waypoints?

Waypoints are the key markers you set to define where you want to travel. In turn-by-turn navigation, you need at least two waypoints: one for your starting point and one for your destination. Once those are set, Cadence automatically plots a recommended path between them—much like a typical car navigation app—and will reroute you if you wander off-course.

However, if your route is very specific (for example, an organized group ride that takes many turns or follows a strict path), you’ll likely need additional waypoints to ensure Cadence sticks to your exact route. Each waypoint tells the navigation engine, “I definitely need to go through this spot,” which helps it stay on track and follow the path you’ve planned.

As a general rule, keep waypoints to a reasonable minimum for smooth navigation. But if you have a route that must be followed turn-by-turn without deviation, adding more waypoints can help you lock in those precise directions.
